Gilbert Costilla

Gilbert Z. Costilla passed peacefully May 1st 2017 in St. Criox Falls, Wi. after a long battle with Alzheimer's and more recently influenza b.

Gilbert was born Oct. 6th 1943 to Jeronimo and Felipa Costilla in Chandler Michigan. Gilbert was the 8th of 9 children and the youngest son. Being the son of migrant workers, the family moved often from farm to farm but ultimately called Texas home. As a child Gilbert attended catholic school but did not attend past the 8th grade. Although Gilbert lacked a formal education he found success in various ventures and was also a lead diesel mechanic until he retired early due to a stroke in 1993. As an adult Gilbert served his country faithfully in Vietnam and was honorably discharged as an E4 specialist in the army. Upon coming home Gilbert eventually settled in St. Paul, Mn. Where he met Shirley Ann Ingersoll. To this union 3 children were born and life as a family man began. Gilbert spent his life devoted to his family and spent time enjoying the great outdoors as an avid hunter and fisherman. Later in life Gilbert became devoted to his grandchildren and was never happier than when he was sneaking them treats.

Gilbert was preceded in death by both his parents, siblings Oralia Burrell, George Costilla, Gonzalo Costilla, Genevieve Velasquez, and mother of his children Shirley Ann Ingersoll.

Left to mourn Gilbert are his children Catherine and Tony Klegin, Gilbert Costilla Jr., and Patricia And Mike Fickbohm. Grandchildren Cheyanna, Tyree, Shakayla, Brenna, Tristan, Teanna, Tasia, Tavis, Kyler, Olivia, Hunter, Harrison, Sierra, and great grandchildren Aubrey and Layla. Siblings Phela Garza, Elida Gonzales, Ruben Ramos, and Hope and Richard Glaser. Sister in law Paula Costilla and brother in law Henry Velasquez as well as many, many nieces, nephews and close family friends.

Services are a visitation from 4-7pm at Kessler and Maguire funeral home Tuesday May 9th and Mass at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Wednesday May 10 at 11am with a one hour visitation prior to mass. Luncheon will follow mass with burial at Fort Snelling following the luncheon
