Contract Negotiator for the City of Chicago Department of Procurement Services, former employee of the Internal Revenue Service in St. Paul, former community activist in the Twin Cities area. Joan was taken from us on Friday, August 3 after a three year battle with cancer. Her courage and strength were an inspiration and touchstone for all who loved and admired her. Adored wife of Stephen R. Sharp; beloved mother of Patrick & Jane Guernsey; revered stepmother of Stephen-Paul and Timothy Sharp; loving sister of Raymond Fernow and Karen Fernow-Lang; cherished grandmother of Alan, Angela, Robert, Thomas, Josephine and Ian Guernsey; and is survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. Preceded by father, Raymond Fernow; mother, Elayne Fernow; brother Kevin Fernow; and son, Michael Guernsey. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 9, from 4-7 PM at Kessler & Maguire Funeral Home, 640 West 7th St., St. Paul. A Funeral Mass will be said on Friday, August 10 at 10 AM, St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in St. Paul with burial to follow at the Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights.
