Saint Paul

Beloved Mother, Grandma & Friend

Age 84, of St. Paul, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026.

Dolly was born in Devils Lake, North Dakota, on February 10, 1942. She was so small at birth that she was given the nickname “Dolly,” a name that remained with her throughout her life. She moved to St. Paul as a toddler and proudly called it home.

Dolly graduated from Monroe High School in 1970. Bright and gifted with numbers, she quickly began working in accounting and finance, where she met her future husband, John McGinn. Together they had five children.

Dolly was a dedicated, loving, and fun mother who had a special way of making children feel seen and loved. She was the mother other children gravitated toward, known for her generosity, warmth, and kindness. She was the neighbor with the best Halloween treats and the mom who hosted the best birthday parties (and there were many!). She was a room mother, field trip leader, Boy Scout troop mom, and always willing to lend herself wherever she could make a difference.

Dolly’s life included challenges that she met with remarkable strength and perseverance. When John passed away at a young age, she was left to guide and support five children on her own. She rose to the occasion, worked hard, and continued to provide a loving and steady home.

Dolly found a loving partner in Fred Klein, who playfully said he was “on a mission from God” to be by her side. Together, they shared 24 wonderful years filled with travel, fairs, concerts, booyahs, and countless other adventures. Fred brought companionship, laughter, and love into Dolly’s life.

Dolly loved bringing people together and hosted countless holiday celebrations filled with decorations, tradition, laughter, and more than a few of her famous hams, her favorite.

When her children were grown, Dolly delighted in becoming a grandmother. She once again found joy in toys, cartoons, field trips, birthday parties, and all the little moments that allowed her to share her love with the next generation.

Dolly was a mother until the very end, continuing to guide, care for, and love her family. Her greatest joy was having her children and grandchildren close, and she was surrounded by their love in her final moments.

She is survived by her children Judy (Virgil), John (Nora), Colleen, Suzanne, and Maureen (Bryan); grandchildren Aaron McGinn, Klein Kravis, and Delaney Kravis; sisters Mary Miller, Michelle Orchard, and Judith Orchard; and many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John McGinn; her beloved partner of 24 years, Fred Klein; her parents, Timm and Evelyn Orchard; and brothers Timm, John, and Warden. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.Memorial Mass 10:30 AM Tuesday, June 30, at Nativity of Our Lord, 1938 Stanford Ave. A gathering celebrating Dolly’s life will follow at noon at Degidio’s on West 7th Street.
