Arlene Bertrand

Arlene Ione Bertrand, age 88, of St. Paul, MN passed away surrounded by family on August 27, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her husband Louis (Bud) Bertrand Sr and son Louis (Buddy) Bertrand Jr, her parents Berger and Tillie Morud, sisters Delores Kaski, Millie Lambertz, and Rosie Grewing.

She leaves behind her children; Renee (Mike) Kaulfuss, Terri (Norman) Peterson, Chuck (Eileen) Bertrand and Arlene “Babes” Bertrand (Ken); grandchildren; Jason, Jodi, Nikki, Danny, Patrick, Katie, Nick, Scott, Jack and Cassondra; 15 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great grandchildren; brother Maynard Morud of Toronto, SD; many nieces and nephews and all the “kids” who called her mom.

Arlene was born on September 5, 1932 and grew up on a farm in rural Toronto, South Dakota.  There Arlene fostered her love for animals especially riding horses.  Arlene had an ear for music and self-taught playing anything with a keyboard including the piano, organ and accordion.  Arlene had many jobs in her lifetime from waitressing to factory work to housekeeping at St. Mary’s Home and Highland Chateau.  For a period of time Arlene moved back to Toronto, SD where she managed the Teen Center in town and drove a school bus. Arlene enjoyed reading the St. Paul Pioneer Press and doing the Jumble puzzles.  She will be remembered for her love of finding a bargain and shopping with her children and grandchildren. Above all she cherished her family and loved them unconditionally.

We will eternally miss her presence in our lives.  A special thank you to her son Chuck and his wife Eileen for caring for mom in their home; and to the grandchildren who supported their parents over the past few weeks caring for her every need.

A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at Kessler & Maguire Funeral Home, 640 W 7th St, St. Paul, MN  55102 at 2:00 pm, with visitation two hours prior.  Private interment at a later date.
