Clarice Jen Westall

March 9, 1941 — October 15, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our mother, grandmother, and wife, Clarice Jean Westall, who passed away on the morning of October 15th, 2025. Clarice was a loving mother, grandmother, wife, and friend to so many. Her kindness, humor, and strength touched every person who had the blessing of knowing her.

Born on March 9th, 1941, in Illinois, Clarice spent her childhood on the family farm with her parents, Clarence and Anna Welge, and her older sister, MaryAnn (Oehm). She attended a one-room schoolhouse through the 8th grade before graduating from Streeter High School. Clarice went on to attend the University of Illinois, where she studied English and Anthropology, danced ballet, hosted a college radio show, and eventually met her future husband, Grant, whom she married in January 1963.

Clarice led a full and active life. She loved reading, cooking, and—most of all—spending time with her family. A dedicated professional, she worked for H&R Block as a tax preparer and was an enrolled agent for the IRS. She shared her expertise generously, teaching and mentoring others both atH&R Block and at the University of Minnesota.

Service was at the heart of who Clarice was. She volunteered throughout her life, giving her time and talents to her community and church. Her work included coaching and leading Campfire Girls, enabling children from Asia to receive critical medical care in the United States, and serving as a Eucharistic Minister in the Episcopal Church.

Clarice was the proud mother of 3 daughters and one son: Caroline, Rebecca, Sarah and Bill. She also cherished her eight grandchildren: Elizabeth, Alanna, Helen, Emily, Gabriel, Alexis, Ryan and Myles.

She was, in every sense, a beautiful soul. She had a touch of sass that delighted those around her, and she carried her wit, humor, and grace with her until the end of her life.

She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but we rejoice in knowing she is now at at peace. Her beautiful, loving spirit now soaring free as if “On Eagle’s Wings”.

A memorial for Clarice is planned for 11/29/25 at St. Mark’s Episcopal Cathedral, 519 Oak Grove St., Minneapolis, MN 55403. Visitation with the family begins at 10am with the memorial service and internment at 11am. A celebration of life will follow later in the afternoon. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
