June 3, 1943 — May 7, 2024

Knock Knock, who's there? John Edward McDonald, a beloved jokester who always had a knack for making others laugh. John passed away peacefully at the age of 80 on May 7, 2024. Known for his quick wit and infectious humor, John brought joy to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Born on June 3, 1943, John grew up in Owatonna, Mn. After graduating from high school, he felt a calling to serve his country and enlisted in the Air Force. John bravely served in the Vietnam War, demonstrating courage and honor throughout his service.

Following his military service, John pursued his passion for education. He dedicated several decades to teaching, inspiring generations of students with his knowledge and passion for learning. John was known for his kindness, patience, and unwavering commitment to his students' success.

John met the love of his life, Carol, while working in a school. Their romance blossomed amidst the halls of education, where their shared sense of humor brought them together. They shared a deep and enduring love that enriched their lives and the lives of those around them.

In his free time, John found solace and joy in gardening, particularly cultivating juicy tomatoes destined for his beloved BLT sandwiches.

John's sense of humor was his steadfast companion through the toughest of times, especially during the last couple of years filled with numerous doctors' appointments and difficult diagnoses. He had a way of breaking the tension with a joke. His witty remarks never failed to elicit the biggest laughs and immediate adoration for him.

John will be deeply missed by his family and friends. His legacy of service, compassion,  and a well-timed joke will continue to inspire all who knew him.
