Lawrence “Larry” Kasella Sr., age 85, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025. He was born on June 29, 1940, to Anton (Tony) and Elizabeth (Bessie) Kasella in the West 7th neighborhood of St. Paul, Minnesota and where he lived all of his life.
Larry had a lifelong passion for cars and could often be found cruising up and down University Ave. It was at the old Porky’s on University Avenue where he met the love of his life, Rosey. The two married in 1961 and shared 59 wonderful years together while raising their three children.
Larry began his career with the City of Saint Paul as a janitor and, through dedication and hard work, rose to become the Head of Maintenance for the Saint Paul Public Libraries. Outside of work, Larry and Rosey enjoyed camping at Springvale Campground, where they built many lifelong and cherished friendships.
Those who knew him will always remember his Archie Bunker style: blunt, hilarious, stubborn as the day is long, yet somehow always right in the way, only he could be. He told the truth as he saw it, often loudly, but always with a surprising warmth that made you laugh even when you pretended to be annoyed. Behind every gruff remark was a man who cared more than he let on.
Preceded in death by his loving wife Rosey, parents, Tony and Bessie, sister Dolly, Bud, Darlene, and son-in-law Chris.
Larry is survived by his children Dolly (Jerry) Ludden, Larry Jr.(Nancy) Kasella, and Teresa (the late Chris) Skoog; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Francis De Sales Catholic Church, 650 Palace Ave, St. Paul, MN 55102, on December 9, 2025, at 11:00 AM, with visitation beginning one hour prior.
May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
