Marvin Ross

October 19, 1947 — March 4, 2016

Marvin Jonathan (Jon) Ross died peacefully at home on March 4, 2016. Jon was born in St. Paul on October 19, 1947. He graduated from Cretin High School and served in the US Navy from 1967 to 1971 as an aircraft electrician and mechanic, and flew on medevac missions in the Pacific. Jon earned Bachelor's, Master's and Doctorate degrees from the University of Minnesota. Jon was dedicated to his work at the U of M Biological Station in Itasca State Park. Jon was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Faith (Moore) Ross. Jon is survived by his two children Adriane (Andy) Cooper, Andy (Caitlin) Ross, one grandchild, Joe Cooper, and ex-wife Cindy Conrin. Jon is also survived by his 6 siblings: Thomas, Patrick, Catherine (Bruce) Earley, Mary (Jon) Lacho, Susan, and Jane (Jerry) Gould, as well as numerous cousins, nieces & nephews, grandnieces & nephews, and countless friends and coworkers with whom he enjoyed long and light-hearted conversations. Jon was an avid outdoorsmen, a true academician, a devoted father and grandfather, and a beloved brother and colleague. A funeral service will be held at Kessler & Maguire funeral home on W. 7th St. in St. Paul on Saturday, March 19th at Noon. Visitation will held immediately prior to the service starting at 10 am. In addition, a gathering for friends will be held at the Itasca Biological Station on Saturday, April 2nd from Noon - 2:30pm.
