Mary Kathleen Asher, age 98 of St Paul, Minnesota,
A much loved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend left this earth on May14th 2026.
Mary died peacefully, fully accepting her death at Holy Family Residence in St. Paul, Mn.
Mary was born April 23rd 1928 in Pontiac Michigan. At age 2 years her family traveled to Rock Elm Wisconsin where they began farming. Mary’s childhood was spent working on the farm and as the eldest, caring for her 9 siblings. After several years as a novice in the convent, she left for St Paul and there through Great Grandma Abbie’s matchmaking met her future husband. Mary raised 3 children, but her home was always open to anyone in need of a short or long stay. In her 40’s she began employment at St. Thomas College Seminary. This position created lasting friendships, offered opportunities to expand her ever curious intellect and deepen her spirituality.
“Pray to love one another well”. This statement recently spoken by Mary exemplifies her life of support and caring for others. In her heart, it mattered not where you came from, your status or past history- if she saw a need she responded to it.
Mary is honored and will be remembered by her daughters Marsha (Pam) & Beth, son-in-law Nick, grandchildren Justin, Ben, Abby & Lauren, great grandchildren Bohden and Finley, sister Sara (Howie), brothers Patrick (Sharon) and Michael (Deb), numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends Rob & Khanh.
She is preceded in death by daughters Mary Therese and Anne, brothers Richard, Steven, Thomas, LeRoy and George, sisters Therese and Rose, parents Roy and Evelyn and many dear friends.
Sincere thanks to the Little Sisters of the Poor, Our Lady of Peace hospice staff and the caring, dedicated staff of Holy Family Residence. Mary frequently voiced “I am so fortunate to live here.” She cherished her 13 years, first in the Jeanne Jugan apartments and later at the Care Center. We are grateful for the kindness and love you provided our mother.
A mass will be celebrated in the Chapel at Holy Family Residence, 330 Exchange St, St. Paul Mn., May 29th, 2026 at 10:30 am.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held on June 14th, 2-7 pm at the Rod & Gun Club, Durand Wisconsin.
Memorial donations may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor.
