Mary Lou (Wilhelmina) Machart was born on January 15, 1939 in Pine City Minnesota, and passed peacefully into the arms of God on June 26, 2024 at Little Sisters of the Poor Holy Family Residence in St Paul MN. She was raised by her grandparents and had many loving memories of her years with them on the farm. In her twenties she moved to Minneapolis and worked at the Cerebral Palsy Workshop. She became acquainted with the Little Sisters of the Poor organization and developed a lifelong bond with them, sharing in their philosophy of love and humble service to all. She later moved to the Jean Jugan apartments in St. Paul, where she lived for almost forty years. She loved being part of that social network of friends and neighbors. But she also loved her peace and quiet. It was important to her to stay active and keep moving. She spent many years volunteering in the kitchen.
Mary Lou's strong faith in the Lord was the center of her life. The chapel was her favorite place, where she spent many hours in prayer and solitude. She had a special gift for comforting the sick and dying. She was a fierce advocate for life and for the disabled. Some quotes she wanted to be remembered by:
"Life is special. God gave us life and only God can take it away."
"People! Wake up my people! Before it's too late!"
"Save the babies and save older people. We need everyone to pray and get to Heaven."
"My God, my Savior, my All!"
"Never give up!"
"Don't forget me in your prayers."
Mary Lou's faith, love, determination and smile are an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. God has another angel.
